On Monday 8 June we were delighted to be invited by Dreams Come True to visit Foxfield School in Wirral to see the impact of some of our funding.
Before Christmas, Dreams Come True received £75,000 from The Health Lottery Foundation to help make dreams come alive for individuals and communities. The charity supports children with disabilities, serious illness or life-limiting conditions in the UK’s most deprived areas. The funding will help to deliver dreams to 1,560 children, through five community dreams and 11 individual dreams.
Foxfield School is one of the five community dreams. Dreams Come True used some of our donation to provide six specially adapted tricycles for pupils with complex medical, physical and educational needs. The visit to the school gave the opportunity to bring together partners to see a community dream in action.
Our Chief Executive, Delva Patman said,
“This visit was joyful and motivating. We were all made very welcome by the staff and students. As well as seeing a demonstration of the trikes in action we got to hear a performance from the choir and watch a dance and gymnastics display – all in glorious sunshine!”
Lisa King OBE, Chief Executive from Dreams Come True said,
“It has been a real joy to be here today, seeing the children using the trikes, celebrating the partnership with The Health Lottery Foundation and most of all recognising that something really important is being delivered at Foxfield School.”
Jane Brennan, Deputy Headteacher from Foxfield School said,
“Our school supports young people with complex medical, physical, and educational needs, many of whom face significant barriers to participating in traditional sporting and recreational activities. The grant has enabled us to begin transforming opportunities for physical activity, independence, and social inclusion for our pupils.”
Jane reports that although the project is still in its early stages, the impact has already been significant. The accessible bikes and tricycles have created opportunities for students who would otherwise be unable to experience cycling. For many pupils, this is their first opportunity to engage in an activity that promotes movement, exercise, coordination, and independence in a safe and supportive environment.
Seeing firsthand the difference our funding can make is an important part of our strategy to build strong relationships with the charities we support. We look forward to visiting more community dreams during the year – thanks to Foxfield School for welcoming us and Dreams Come True for organising the visit.
