The Health Lottery Foundation is delighted to announce The National Kidney Federation (NKF) is the first charity to receive a grant awarded from a public vote. A £5,000 grant has been awarded to NKF and every other charity that took part received a £500 donation.
The vote, which ran for one week from Monday 11 August, encouraged members of the public to support one of seven charities. They all work with people impacted by chronic disease:
- Arts for Dementia
- Asthma Relief
- Epilepsy Scotland
- Heart Heroes
- National Kidney Federation (NKF)
- SKCIN – The Karen Clifford Skin Cancer Charity
- Teapot Trust
Delva Patman, Chief Executive of The Health Lottery Foundation, explained:
“Our mission is to try and reduce the health disparities that cause chronic conditions. This is why we put forward seven charities for a public vote that all work with those impacted by chronic illness. Congratulations to The National Kidney Federation. It’s a privilege to be able to support this organisation, which is run by kidney patients for kidney patients and their families. We are grateful to The Health Lottery players, who made this donation possible.”
Pete Revell, NKF Head of Marketing and Fundraising commented:
“We’re so grateful that the Health Lottery Foundation has recognised our work and included us in the public vote alongside so many other incredible charities. Thanks to the generosity of our amazing supporters, we can continue to grow our helpline services. It’s vital that we dedicate these funds to ensuring our helpline is there for patients and families affected by kidney disease, offering not only comfort and support in difficult times, but also information, guidance, and the tools to help patients feel empowered in managing their condition.”
By the end of 2025 The Health Lottery Foundation will have distributed £2M – £3M to organisations working to improve health and wellbeing across the UK. This money will have been distributed through closed and open grant rounds as well as public voting rounds.
