During Organ Donation Week we shine a spotlight on the National Kidney Federation (NKF). Thanks to players of The Health Lottery this charity received a £5,000 grant earlier in the year by coming first in a public vote to secure funding.

Over 47 years supporting people with kidney disease

The National Kidney Federation are the largest kidney patient charity in the UK. They are run by kidney patients, for kidney patients.

With approximately 3.25 million people living in the UK with kidney disease, the National Kidney Federation are a lifeline of support and hope to patients and families. They perform two main functions:

  • to provide a range of national patient support services
  • to lobby for improvements to renal provision and treatment

As well as offering practical guidance and support, they campaign at a strategic level to persuade Government, the Department of Health, NHS Blood and Transplant, and the NHS to provide better treatment and services for kidney patients.

National organ donation week

As part of #OrganDonationWeek the National Kidney Federation are sharing many touching stories from supporters. These deeply personal accounts demonstrate exactly how important organ donation is.
